Venizelos, Eleftherios (1864 – 1936), [Link] great liberal statesman from Crete who initiated the democratic development of 20th century political life in Greece. Kalomiris’ admiration for Venizelos was unshaken by the ensuing political strife in the country. In lifelong devotion, the composer remained faithful to his “idols”: Venizelos, Palamas and Sikelianos.
Doxas, Angelos (1897 – 1986), pen name of Nikolaos Drakoulidis, physician, poet, playwright.
